Annita Mckee is a contemporary visual artist working sculpturally with porcelain and mixed media. Emotive pieces are inspired by experiences scuba diving combined with her interest in human beings, their emotions and states of mind. Sculptures have titles with an emotional meaning. She uses found pebbles and rocks from shores and underwater embracing the notion that a visit to the sea enhances physical and mental well-being. These rocks have been formed by the seas movements and shaped over time yet survive being resilient like people. Using a slip casting method the original stone textures are transferred onto porcelain forms. Hand built chairs represent a person, where we sit, communicate, think and reflect. Pure white porcelain being a blank canvas leaves the viewer able to interpret meaning according to their own narrative.
Annita creates exhibition pieces along with a range of affordable sculptures. She takes sculptures scuba diving to interact with the underwater world providing inspiration for future projects. Her studio is based in County Down, Northern Ireland where she works sustainably placing emphasis on protecting the ocean and our environment.
