'Black and White Thinking' pre-selected by the Royal Hibernian Academy
I am delighted that 'Black and White Thinking' has been pre-selected for the Royal Hibernian Academy's annual exhibition 2022.
The Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts is located in Dublin and is renowned as Ireland’s Powerhouse of the Arts. The RHA has a rich 200 year history of developing, acknowledging and challenging the public’s appreciation of traditional and innovative approaches to the visual arts.
'Black and White Thinking' is a porcelain piece, cast using a Carlingford rock. Carlingford Lough is an inlet in north-eastern Ireland. The rock is symbolic of resilience, having survived being battered and moulded by the sea’s movements. Hand-built chairs represent people - where we sit, think, contemplate and communicate. The concept is that black and white thinking is very restrictive. Coral sprigs have been added, I see these like creeping thoughts. My days as a counsellor influenced this sculpture.
To be pre-selected for such a prestigious exhibition is a huge achievement and I await the next stage of the selection process when I will take the sculpture to Dublin.
